Cochrane RCMP are trying to figure out why barbed wire was strung across a trail in the West Bragg Creek Area.

RCMP Corporal Curtis Peters says on the evening of July 5, a bike ride ended in a very bizarre way. "Two guys went for a bike ride out on the trails in the West Bragg Creek Area and shortly after they got started on their ride one of them was going down hill  and standing on his bike when he hit a barbed wire that had been strung between two trees on the trail. That resulted in some cuts on his clavicle/neck area as well as knocking him off of his bike causing some injuries as well."

The injured man and his friend took down the wire, shares Peters, leaving his bike behind so he could seek medical attention. When his friend went back the next day to retrieve the bike, it was gone.

At this point, motive remains unclear. "We are unsure at this point what the motive is for why the wire was put there or if someone took the bike to steal it or they were hoping to return it. Anyone that knows where the bike is, I would ask that you return it to the Cochrane RCMP or give us a phone call at the detachment."

In all his time working in the area , this is a first for the Corporal. "This is pretty bizarre, I don't recall anything like it in my time in the area at all."

If you have any information regarding motive or the bike's whereabouts contact the Cochrane detachment at 403-451-8000 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
