Calgary Police have taken over the investigation of a body found west of Cochrane, and have deemed the death a homicide.

CPS say that the death of the man, found along Highway 22 on Wednesday (July 12), is connected to the death of three people found in a burned out car in Sage Hill on Monday (July 10).

"We can now officially identify the third victim in the car as 39-year-old Tiffany Ear and the man found near Highway 22 as 26-year-old Hanock Afowerk," said Acting Insp. Paul Wozney yesterday (July 13).

Wozney said autopsies are continuing on the three bodies of Afowerk and Ear, as well as 36 year old Glynnis Fox and Cody Pfeiffer who were previously identified as two of the victims found in Sage Hill.

Investigators are exploring the possibility that Fox, Pfeiffer, and Ear were merely in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people. Fox and Ear were sisters and may have been targeted in an attack against Afowerk.

"Whenever we do investigations like this we do background checks based on the victims and that takes a lot of time to do that. Based on our investigation at this point, checks in the community, and information that has come in from the public we have been able to piece that part of it together and we believe Mr. Afowerk was the target of this."

While CPS were unable to elaborate on details, they said all victims suffered significant traumatic injuries.

Wozney also said Ear and Fox leave behind multiple children and that multiple people may have been involved. Investigators at this time are continuing to search for additional crime scenes. Wozney also pleaded for public assistance.

"We know there is people in the community that have information regarding this event. We know that people know what happened and if they're scared or in any way hesitant to contact us they can do so anonymously through Crime Stoppers or through our tip line. We are imploring the community and those that may know something about it to contact us."
