Yesterday (September 15), the Airdrie Boys & Girls Club received a donation from Lowes.

In a cheque presentation at the store, staff members handed a cheque for $2,814.47 to Jessica Nash, Manager of Events and Volunteer Coordination with the Boys & Girls Club.

"This is huge for us," said Nash, "In a year where we've seen a decrease in fundraising overall, this is huge."

Nash explained they've tried to hold their usual fundraising events over the years, but they have not been as successful as they usually are.

"We've just seen that in our events, we just have not had the dollars donated like we have in the past, and it's just a sign of the economy and what's been happening to our citizens in our community that are still a little bit down."

The donation was a part of the Lowes Heroes campaign. Kaylen Meloche, a Customer Service Associate with Lowes, said they adopted the Boys & Girls Club partially because their location near the mall restricts which charities they can adopt, and partially because of a personal connection.

"We don't really have many places that we can go. We're kind of restricted to the Rocky View area. And I personally have ties in with the Airdrie Boys & Girls Club. My brother goes there and I used to go there a long time ago, so we just thought we'd pick them this year."

Nash said the money will be put to good use.

"It's going to go towards funding our programs that aren't funded right now and also youth and children programming."
