RCMP have arrested two people in relation to stolen catalytic converters.

Innisfail RCMP responded to a complaint of a Black Mazda 6 that appeared to be prowling around Hooker’s Towing in the early morning hours of Friday, February 21, 2020.

Mounties located the vehicle in the McDonald’s drive-thru and conducted a traffic stop. A 27-year-old female and 34-year-old male, both from Calgary were arrested.

During their investigation, officers discovered the license plate on the vehicle was confirmed as stolen. They also located methamphetamine and newly stolen catalytic converters inside the vehicle.

A catalytic converter is part of a vehicle's exhaust system which reduces toxic gases and pollutants by converting them into less-toxic pollutants. Because of the external location and the use of valuable precious metals, catalytic converters are a target for thieves.

The male and female are jointly charged with Possession of Property obtained by Crime and the female is also charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and other provincial offenses.

The identities of the male and female are not being released at this time as charges have not yet been sworn.

Both were released on appearance notices to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on April 3, 2020.

RCMP say property crime and crime reduction remain a priority for Innisfail and residents are asked to continue to report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods.
