She's faced adversity and perseverance in her career and now she's sharing that message to Airdrie students.

Former Olympic Hurdler Sarah Wells will be in the city this weekend speaking to students at Our Lady Queen of Peace and Good Shepherd School, as well as offering a session with the Airdrie ACES Athletics Club.

ACES Coach Jodie Matsuba-Szucs says she's thrilled for the message Sarah will bring.

"She calls it the 'Believe initiative', basically that's what it is in a nutshell. Believing in yourself, having that mental strength to push yourself through whatever barrier or obstacle is in front of you."

Wells is a Canadian Olympic athlete who broke her femur months before the 2012 Games in London. Much to the dismay of her doctors and other doubters, Wells persevered and eventually recovered to make the team for the Summer Games.

Matsuba-Szucs says Wells' story of belief and perseverance is something they've always held to in their club.

"That's what it's all about for us...teaching them resiliency because they're going to apply that to all aspects of their lives"

Wells will be speaking at Good Shepherd School and Our Lady Queen Of Peace on Friday April 21st, before hosting a session with the Airdrie ACES the next day.
