Canmore RCMP arrested an Alberta man on Tuesday, September 13, after a lengthy police chase that began in Cochrane.

At approximately 11 a.m., Cochrane RCMP responded to a call of an erratic driver in a stolen cube van heading toward Cochrane from the Airdrie area.

RCMP located the van in the Sunset neighborhood where they attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver ignored the police and made his way onto Highway 22.

While following the van, RCMP witnessed the driver collide with another vehicle at the intersection of 1A and continue driving. The driver collided with a second vehicle at the Griffin Road intersection, this time getting out of the cube van and forcing the driver out of the Jeep that he had collided with and taking off in the second stolen vehicle.

RCMP confirmed that both drivers in the collisions were uninjured.

The stolen Jeep Wrangler began traveling west on Highway 1 driving into oncoming traffic. Once in Canmore, the driver attempted to break into multiple vehicles, stealing a third vehicle in an attempt to flee.

The incident ended when the stolen vehicle hit a police vehicle and the suspect was apprehended trying to run from officers.

Charges are pending, but until charges have been laid the identity of the suspect will not be released.
