Seniors Week started yesterday (June 5) in Airdrie, with the annual Cedarwood Station Country Fair kicking things off.

Shannon Fetterly, Community Relations Manager with Cedarwood Station, said the day is a way to recognize Airdrie's seniors. This year, they wanted to focus especially on their contribution to our nation.

"This year, being Canada's 150 years, it's just celebrating our seniors and making sure that they know that they're important to us and being there with them."

Fetterly thinks it's important for the community to take some time to recognize its senior, and this week is a great time to do that.

"Our seniors have brought us to where we are today. If they hadn't laid the groundwork for us to be here, things could be a lot different. We need to celebrate who they are and what they've achieved in their lifetime."

Deputy Mayor Fred Burley and Councillor Candice Kolson spent some time at the fair, and a member of Discover Airdrie's news team took a turn in the fair's dunk tank. The festivities also included a magician, live music, a ring toss and food.

Seniors week continues until June 11.
