September 28th - 30th are Culture Days in Alberta and the celebrations in Airdrie are centred around the Public Library.

Culture Days have happened in the province over the past 11 years.  It's a chance to take in one, or more, of hundreds of family events across Alberta that celebrate the arts, our heritage, diversity and community spirit.

The province gave grants of over $200,000 to community organizations across the province to help them host Culture Days events and the Airdrie Public Library was one of them, thereby making them a Celebration Site.

Tonight (September 29) from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, the library will host an event called "Voice and Vision.:  Miranda Johnson, Manager of Programming and Community Engagement for APL says it's a collaboration between Airdrie writers and visual artists.

"Back in May, 14 writers from the Airdrie Writer's Group exchanged work with 14 local visual artists to gain inspiration from one another's work and the event on Saturday is the conclusion to the project.  It's a free celebration where the artists involved in the project will share their work and their inspiration.  We'll have live music, interactive artistic activities, refreshments, door prizes and just a great culture night."

Johnson says the library is very pleased to host Culture Days events in the city, saying that it fits right in with their mission, vision, and values.

"Part of our mission is to create cultural connections in the community, to support imagination and creativity through inclusive opportunities.  I think it fits really well with our mission, vision, and values of what we're trying to do as an organization and we get to participate in a provincial activity and support local artists."

Johnson says with the library being known as a community hub, it just makes sense that they're taking part in an activity that supports culture.  She says the event is completely free of charge and is for people of all ages with lots of children's activities planned.

The province is also offering free admission to Alberta sites like the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre in the Crowsnest Pass, Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump at Fort Macleod and the Royal Tyrell Museum at Drumheller during Culture Days.
