June 5th to 11th is Senior's Week in Alberta and the head of an Airdrie senior's club says it's a week that is much deserved.

Myrtle Brewster is the President of the Over 50 Club and thinks that no one should doubt the contributions of seniors to the fabric of Airdrie.  "Yes, I totally believe that.  We all have parents, we all have children, we're an evolving generation.  Yes, the backbone of the country are certainly our seniors."

They say that 60 is the new 40 and Brewster thinks that's true.  She says that Airdrie seniors are very involved in, not only the Over 50 Club, but the community in general.  "I believe Airdrie seniors are quite involved in the community as well as the club.  They get out there and they give a lot of themselves, not only to their families but to communities.  It's just amazing to see the number of people that are so totally involved."

Since seniors have more time now that most of them are no longer in the work force, they have more time to give back to the community.  Brewster believes Airdrie seniors have been doing that for some time.  "I think that's been ongoing for a good number of years in Airdrie.  I believe the seniors have always been very active whether it's in the arts, recreation, just helping people in general.  Airdrie seniors, you could take off your hat to them, they're a tremendous group of people."

The Over 50 Club will host an Open House on Wednesday, June 7th to introduce the idea of expansion or re-location for the club.  "Our clubhouse is getting rather small for our membership (over 300), says Brewster.  We're inviting a bunch of politicians, people that are running for council, just so they're aware of what we're doing for the city and they can come in and have a look and see what our needs are and go from there."

The public is also invited to the open house and seniors who haven't been to the club can stop by and try out some of their many facilities.  The open house runs from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Over 50 Club, 275 Jensen Drive NE, in the Town and Country Centre.
