Problem-riddled streams of City Council meetings on YouTube will soon be a thing of the past.

Starting with the September 5 meeting, streams will no longer be available on the City's YouTube page and will be hosted directly on the City's website instead.

"It's exciting and I'm looking forward to the change and I'm looking forward to it being consistent because I get a lot of residents that like to watch, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, so this is going to help a lot," said Mayor Peter Brown.

The current YouTube streams have been notorious for dropping off in the middle of meetings. The City believes the change will remedy that problem.

Mayor Brown says the new system will also have a new feature that will make it easier to find the discussions that matter most to you.

"You're going to have the ability to watch the whole meeting, which I'm sure most people don't. But the best feature is you can actually link on the agenda. It will take you right to when the discussion starts about that particular item, if that's what you're interested in."

Council meetings will be streamed at www.airdrie.ca/livecouncil.
