Yesterday (July 17th) Airdrie Transit announced some new services will soon be coming to the City.

One of the most significant changes coming in the fall is a new OnDemand ride booking app. The service will allow customers to book a pick up to an Airdrie transit stop, where the bus will take them to where they need to go.

Transit Coordinator Chris MacIssac shares some of the changes coming to local commuters.

"We're going to go from the current three routes to two routes but the improvement for our local transit will really be around service that operates every 30 minutes as opposed to every 60 minutes."

Regional service will also change with more trips being made to Calgary on the ICE 901 and 902. MacIssac says the 900 will also look different.

"We're making a change now with the service operating to Rundle LRT in Northeast Calgary. The reason we're doing that is because it gives people now a connection into the Peter Lougheed Medical Centre. And also provides better connections for the future Calgary transit network."

Those new Calgary connections will be a BRT leaving from Rundle to various stops in Northeast and Northwest Calgary.

As part of their move to get ready for the changes, the City hired a local company to film promotional videos on the new transit services.

Jeremy Pollock who helped film some of those on July 17th says the changes make sense for the times.

"They're doing some great innovative changes to the way transit works. The new OnDemand app works very much like Uber, it comes and picks you up at your house and takes you to the nearest bus stop. They're just making changes that are relevant to the way people move around their environment today."

The new transit services will officially start on September 5th and you can find more details on the City's Transit Master Plan.
