A long time City Councillor will run for a third term in the upcoming civic election.

Ron Chapman has served as Councillor for the last seven years and explained why he decided to put his name forward again.

"This last year has been very trying being on Council. We've had some ups, we've had some downs. I think we've had more ups than downs. I think I've still got it in me, I'm still passionate about the community. I feel very confident that I can contribute to the community."

Chapman will campaign on a platform focusing on numerous issues, which include advocating the Provincial Government for Airdrie's needs such as new highway interchanges.

The long time Airdrie resident said one of the biggest local issues is infrastructure projects, including a recreation centre.

"The need for a Westside Recreation Centre, I think it's there. I think it's time that we have to start planning this now. Obviously it's not going to be built in a year but it is time to start the public consultation, get out there, plan and see what we need."

Chapman says on top of the recreation centre, Airdrie needs to keep up with infrastructure needs for the growing population especially in regards to road construction.

Additional enforcement officers, improving local services and businesses and keeping tax increases low in future budgets are some of the other priorities for Chapman in the October 16 election.
