Citizens On Patrol (COP) is hosting their annual general meeting in Airdrie on September 17th and 18th.

Over 180 members will be in attendance, reviewing bylaws, sharing techniques, and participating in workshops.

"I think it is really critical, it gives us a chance to learn how other groups are doing things in the province," said David Martin, President of Airdrie COP.

Topics to be covered at the conference include crime and social media, operation centre control, emergency response teams, aboriginal youth and gangs and special tactics and operation.

COP serves as an extra set of eyes and ears for RCMP with Airdrie's group celebrating 20 years of service.

"We can be places that they can't. People don't look at my car driving down the street the same way as they would a patrol car for example," said Martin.

Airdrie COP has seen a decrease in donations, which are used to pay for various expenses, including the cost of fuel while on patrol.

There are currently 28 members in Airdrie. Those who wish to join must be over 18, have a valid driver's license, and no criminal record.

This year's AGM will be held at the Airdrie Town and Country Center.
