The first City Council meeting for October heralded some big announcements, much to the joy of Airdronians that attended.

One of the announcements concerned the Airdrie Main Street Square (AMSQ) with Mayor Peter Brown saying that the project would not be moving forward at this time.

Mayor Brown insisted that the AMSQ Board is listening to members of the community and has recognized concerns many members of Airdrie have.

The idea of a new health facility was presented to Council at the meeting, which would include a large facility being built to make Airdrie the healthiest community in Alberta.

Council was in favour of the proposed facility, but decided to bring it to the Council Budget Committee to discuss funding before moving forward.

The Animal Control Bylaw was also discussed and a motion was carried to make amendments to the bylaw.

The amendments include three dogs and three cats per household and a limit of only six dogs per person at the dog parks.

The next council meeting will be held on October 17, 2016, starting at 6:00p.m. in City Hall.
