The City of Airdrie shared it's vision for a revitalized downtown core at an invitation only event at city hall on Thursday, September 8th.

The Square is a Civic Centre Master Plan aimed at creating a revitalized downtown, which will include a new library, city hall, and retail space.

"Our big plan is to have something that will add to our city, not only draw tourists, but will provide a revenue stream to make it happen." said Kelly Hegg, Deputy Mayor, City of Airdrie.

Airdrie Main Street Square Real Estate Inc. (AMSQ) is a subsidiary created by the City of Airdrie to manage it's real estate holdings on Main Street, which include the Lutheran Church of the Master, the Airdrie Public Library, and all retail space in that area.

Over 10-years, the City would roll out a proposed 4 phase development plan, that would begin with the building of a new church. Eventually those phases would include construction of a new library, city hall, and retail property, all revolving around the idea of a central square for Airdronians to gather.

At the moment, the City hopes to hear how you feel about the project, as several residents are on the fence with the idea.

"That decision that we make obviously needs the proper input, and it needs to come from the citizens of Airdrie." said Hegg.
