If you were disappointed that you missed the deadline to nominate a deserving volunteer for the City's Volunteer of the Year award, you're in luck.

The City has decided to extend the nomination deadline to today.  (January 21).

"We know that there are a lot more people that can be nominated than what we've received in the community, and we want to just make sure that everybody has a chance to see our advertisement and get some more nominations in," said Social Planner Kim Harris.

Harris said they've received about six nominations so far.

"I know it's hard in January for everybody to get back in the swing of things, so we always leave a little room to extend the deadline just to capture everyone that we possibly can."

The City is also still accepting nominations for the Elite Athlete honour.

"Because they're not really a competition, if we get more Elite Athlete nominations and they meet the criteria, they would still be part of the program."

The original deadline for both was Monday (January 15). The Volunteer of the Year awards will be presented in the Spring.
