The City of Airdrie continues to develop an updated Youth Engagement Strategy to ensure the the City provides a safe and friendly community for youth.

They are now seeking input from youth in the community through a new survey. The City will work collaboratively with MDB Insights to find out ways to effectively engage young people.

Clay Aragon, Team Lead for Community Development and Social Planning with the City, said the new survey will build on findings from last year's Youth Needs Assessment. He explained the difference between that survey and the new one, saying the Youth Needs Assessment asked more general questions about what youth want and need in Airdrie.

"What we're doing this time around that's a little bit different is we're delving more into more specifics around those things."

Aragon encouraged Airdronians aged 12 to 24 to participate in the survey, saying it is important to hear from local youth as they shape their engagement strategy.

"We want this youth strategy to be for youth by youth, so the input is really critical in really putting this strategy together. The more we can get input from the cohort that actually is going to be served by this strategy, the better.

Aragon also said having an updated Youth Engagment Strategy is important, especially since Airdrie has so many young families.

"For us, it's really important that we recognize the voice of youth and that their voice is heard when it comes to planning for the city in the future and that their ideas and suggestions are always taking into account."

The latest survey is actually split into two parts: One for youth currently living in Airdrie and another for youth that have moved away because of work or school. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete and will be available on the City's website until November 18.
