As the official start to winter quickly approaches, Airdronians are looking for ways to get outside to enjoy the snow while also keeping a safe distance from others.

The City of Airdrie put out an official list of the safest hills to sled down:

  • Chinook Winds Regional Park
  • Osborne Park (At Windsong Drive and Windsong Boulevard)
  • Coopers Crossing (At Coopers Crescent and Coopers Drive)

The City also listed some safety precautions such as wearing a helmet and warm enough clothing, always making sure kids are supervised, not to slide down a hill leading to a road, and to only sled during daylight hours.

Alberta Health Services also has a list of safety measures to abide by when participating in any winter activity, not just sledding.

Alongside wearing a helmet, having a buddy around, and making sure everyone is dressed right for the weather, AHS goes on to say some activities aren’t suited for children. For example, snowmobiling.
