The City of Airdrie recently started a cart exchange program and some residents have taken advantage of it.

"They have the option to change their 240 green or blue (cart) down to an 80 litre size cart," says Program Coordinator for Waste and Recycling Tracy Pagenhart, "We do find that it's nice for residents who don't produce a lot of waste. Perhaps they don't have a yard so they don't have yard waste to put in the green bin, so they are a little bit easier to manage."

Pagenhart says it is a voluntary program offered by the City, but it might not be for everyone.

"We always suggest that folks really think about their recycling and their organics production. Before they decide to downsize."

Pagenhart says there's no change to the waste and recycling costs if you decide to downsize to the smaller bins.
