Airdrie has seen it's fair share of windy conditions within the last couple weeks, but there's no telling if it'll stay or go.

According to Environment Canada Meteorologist Stewart MacKay, Airdrie and Southern Alberta have been hit with two different wind systems.

"You're going to get strong winds probably for two basic reasons. One is a Chinook, and number two would be an Alberta Clipper which is just a low pressure system that develops over Alberta and then moves quickly to the east-south east and you get strong northerlies behind that sometimes."

MacKay says that Chinook winds are very common for the fall months, but explains why they've been more common lately.

"The Chinook conditions are primarily prevalent the last month or so due to the upper pattern just staying kind of stable and in a pattern that is conducive to those kinds of events."

When it comes to trying to figure out when these systems will pass, Mackay says it's difficult with systems constantly changing.

The forecast over the next couple days is calling for more wind and some temperatures in the double digits which is a sure sign of Chinooks.
