A Cochrane man was to find out his sentencing date on Friday, after being convicted of sexual assault.

Allan Dean Griffin was convicted on Wednesday (March 29), of two counts of sexual assault stemming back from a complaint made to the Cochrane RCMP on October 25, 2011. The original investigation led to Dean being charged with four different counts of sexual offenses. Although he was first acquitted of those charges, says Cochrane RCMP Corporal Troy Savinkoff, an appeal made by the Crown was successful.

"The Crown appealed that conviction and was successful in the appeal process. A new court date was set, and Mr.Griffin has now been convicted of two counts of sexual assault related to those allegations."

Griffin has been held in custody and will remain so pending sentencing. Cpl. Savinkoff says he believes they were waiting for a pre-sentence report to be done up to learn when Griffin will hear his fate.
