Although RancheView School opened the doors in fall, they officially celebrated yesterday (March 23).

Cochrane's newest K-7 (K-8 in fall) school welcomed dignitaries from the Province, Town of Cochrane, Rocky View School Board/Division, as well as a couple hundred parents to celebrate it's opening.

Administrator Sharon Cronin, has done a great job of encouraging students to be leaders in the school and at Thursday's grand opening it showed. RancheView students MCd the entire program which featured handbell and choir performances, as well as a slide show.

MLA Cameron Westhead was pleased with the Province's commitment to building new schools, saying the Alberta government has approved another 26 schools province wide.

"As a government one of our top priorities is seeing school construction projects, like this one, completed as quickly as possible. This school represents one of the most important investments that we can make in our children's future and the future of our province."

Colleen Munro, RVS Chair, pointed out the synergy between past and present times.

"There is an honouring of the history of the Cochrane area in the name of this school; the site sits on the old Cochrane Ranche site and is part of the Treaty 7 land. So there is some great synergy here in the history and the name of the school, and so honour that history and remember that you are going to be great ambassadors for the community of Cochrane when you grow up."

While the last school opening in Cochrane dates back to 2000 when Bow Valley High School opened, this fall Cochrane will happily welcome another school to the RVS family, 'Fireside School'.
