Hundreds of Airdronians donned their costumes a day early, played games, and ate candy - all for a good cause.

Chinook Winds Park played host to the second annual Boo at the Creek, in support of the Airdrie Food Bank.

Organizer of the event, Paige Cutler, said the turn out and Halloween Spirit was more than she could have hoped for.

"I'm thrilled, I'm like a kid in a candy shop," she said halfway through the event. "I think we've had over 500 kids come through already and lots of families dressed up. I love Halloween so it's awesome to see."

Everyone in attendance was encouraged to bring a food or monetary donation. Last year, Boo at the Creek brought in two truck loads of food donations and Cutler is confident that this year, that number will double.

"I think [the food bank] is something that in Airdrie, everybody has a place in their heart for and there's a constant need. The shelves are empty. When we thought about wanting to give back to the community, it seemed like an easy way to ask for non-perishable food items and be able to give back that way."

Cheryl Cropp attended the event with her two daughters and said they had a great time, throwing bean bags into monster mouths, kicking zombie eyeballs, making treat bags and carrying eyeballs on a spoon.

She said events like this are not only great for the kids but they bring people together in support of a good cause.

"I think it's extremely important," she said, adding that lots of Airdronians rely on the Food Bank and all the donations will be incredibly helpful. "Especially with, not only this time of the year but with the economy, lots of people are struggling."
