The construction on Yankee Valley between Bayside Gate and 24th street is almost wrapped up.

The construction is in its final stages of the capital growth project that is increasing the capacity of the road from a two-lane to a four-lane.

According to Bob Neale the city's manager of the capital project and infrastructure, the work being done is edge condition type work.

"The work being done is landscaping and pathway construction. Atco Gas is also working on the site installing gas lines."

Neale says there is some asphalt work that still needs to be done in September.

The road is being widened to help with Airdrie's growing traffic population.

"This project is directly meant for growth. As you know we have reached roughly sixty-eight thousand residents and this is just one of the projects meant to help keep up with the pace of growth in Airdrie."

Neale says there are other improvements planned for Yankee Valley in connection with the railroad tracks to help alleviate the potential traffic jams when a train comes through.
