Rocky View Schools Superintendent, Greg Luterbach made his debut at Thursday's RVS Board of Trustees meeting, where he shared just how much the district has grown.

This year RVS has over 22,700 students enrolled from kidergarten to grade 12, with the highest grouping of students in kindergarten and grade 3.

"In kidergarten we have approximately 1,925 students and that is our largest group other than grade three, in grade three we have about 1,945 kids across the division."

When Luterbach left the RVS division in 2003 to move the BC, there were just 1,350 students enrolled.

This year RVS has opened three new schools with an additional two being opened in the fall next year. Even with the new schools, Luterbach anticipates that there may be a need for 2 to 3 schools each year.

"In the next 10 years we could go from about 22,700 students that we have now, pushing over 30,000."

The Board of Trustees have recognized the need to apply for funding for additional schools, which Luterbach said has been drafted and submitted to the Alberta Board of Education for review.
