During Public Question Period at Monday's (October 2) City Council meeting, concerns over Councillor Allan Hunter's Facebook activity was again brought forward.

One concerned citizen addressed Council and Mayor Peter Brown, asking if they would pass a motion condemning Hunter's posts and reiterate that Airdrie is a welcoming community regardless of race, gender, religion or sexual orientation.

Near the end of the meeting, Mayor Brown did address the matter. He reiterated that Airdrie is an inclusive and welcome community to everyone.

"We all know as a Council, and everyone in this community in fact, it's always been and will continue to be an inclusive. We also see this demonstrated every day as citizens come together in so many exceptional ways."

Mayor Brown thanked all citizens that have brought their concerns forward about the issue and said that there's nothing more that Council will address.

"We have met in camera. Those conversations will not be made public and this council considers the matter closed."

Last week, Hunter issued a public apology for Facebook posts made to his personal account that were regarded as racist, homophobic and misogynistic.
