The big item on the agenda at Monday's City Council meeting (March 6) was the results of this year's Citizens Satisfaction Survey.

The survey found that overall indicators of quality of life have decreased consistently each year since 2015, but Dorian Kauchur, Manager of Strategic Business Services for the City of Airdrie, says the drop is not necessarily a cause for concern.

"When you drill down into the detail of the various services and the importance of those services, that drop didn't translate."

According to Kauchur, the drop is not unique to Airdrie.

"Our consultant did indicated that she has seen a comparable drop on those high level indicators across the board with other municipalities that she has surveyed as well."

Kauchur said that the results of the survey come in handy for the city going forward.

"This is one of the tools that our councils historically have always valued quite highly, because it is from the horses mouth, from the residents themselves, and giving, particularly from a planning perspective, the top concerns that are listed."

According to Kauchur, one of the more surprising findings of the survey is that healthcare is no longer the most pressing concern in the city, seeing a drop from 26% last year to 15% this year. Residents are now most concerned with the city's infrastructure, roads, traffic, train tracks and construction. Kauchur was also pleasantly surprised by the findings on safety in the city, with 99% saying they feel safe during the day.

The full findings of the survey are available here.
