The Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) which has its headquarters in Airdrie has assisted another southern Alberta RCMP detachment in the arrest of two people on drug trafficking charges.

On Thursday (October 29) Sundre RCMP and SAD CRU officers arrested the two suspects as they were staying at a local hotel in Sundre.  Police obtained a search warrant for the room and subsequently found a variety of illegal drugs, including cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine.  RCMP also seized several thousand dollars of cash which was allegedly obtained through the proceeds of crimes.

45-year-old Carl Bjorkman of no fixed address and a 17-year-old female from Olds, who is no relation to Bjorkman, and can't be identified because of her age, were charged with drug trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Both were brought before a Justice of the Peace and  Bjorkman was remanded into custody to appear in Provincial Court in Didsbury at a later date.   The 17-year-old was given court-imposed conditions and released to a relative and will also be in Court in Didsbury at a later date.

“The combined efforts of the Sundre RCMP detachment and the RCMP Southern Alberta District CRU were effective in shutting down this individual’s criminal activities within the Town of Sundre," says Corporal Joe Mandel of the Sundre RCMP.  "Not only did this individual prey on our vulnerable but brought unwanted criminality into the Sundre community.  This combined effort of hard work furthers our objectives of reducing rural crime and striving towards safer communities in Alberta."
