It's no surprise that Airdrie is rapidly growing, and that could spill over to communities like Crossfield.

According to Chief Administrative Officer Ken Bosman, the town knows this and they have a plan.

"We do have the opportunity and we are taking steps to make sure we grow our way as opposed to the choices some other cities and towns have made."

Bosman says that their future plan isn't to clone cities like Airdrie and Calgary, but to create their own framework in attracting more people.

"We have deliberately made choices to restrict the extremely high density developments that a lot of urban municipalities have decided to allow."

In the 2016 Canadian Census, Airdrie grew 42% since 2011 while Crossfield had a 4% growth rate.
