Construction of a football field for W.H. Croxford that began in August saw some setbacks.

Superintendent Greg Luterbach said they've now started the project over in an attempt to get it right.

"We know the football field at Croxford has gone in, was seeded and grass growing, but to not a huge surprise given our bright and sunny and warmer summer, we've struggled to have the grass really catch there. We've also had some sinking and some unleveling going on in the football field, so the decision was that we need to go back. We stripped it, releveled it and we are going to be adding in irrigation so that it's going to be a more viable field long term."

Luterbach said once the irrigation is finished, they'll still need to decide whether they'll seed the area again or lay down sod.

There was no expectation that the school would be able to use the field this year, but the setback still did cause delays.

"We think realistically we're not going to have anybody on that field all this fall. It will be until probably this time next year until we know the field is strong and can handle a football team both practicing and playing on it."
