Last night's (July 23) windstorm left the East Side of Airdrie in the dark.
According to Alana Antonelli, Manager of Corporate Communications for Fortis Alberta, the strong winds blew a tree onto power lines on the East Side around 9:00pm.
"Power went out to approximately 2,400 customers around 9:00pm. We restored about a third of those, around 750 customers, by about 9:30pm and the remainder were fully restored by close to midnight."
Antonelli explained that in a situation like this, Fortis' brushing crews work to remove trees from the lines.
Antonelli also had a safety message for the public regarding these types of situations.
"If anyone were to ever come across a downed power line, stay at least ten meters safe and call us immediately."
