As fall continues, mating season gets started for many animals, increasing animal activity is many of the areas of Alberta. Many of theses areas are located close to roads, raising the hazards for drivers. Brent Boukall, Senior Wildlife Biologist with Alberta Wildlife and Parks says Fall brings with it increased hazards.

"In the fall, which is kind of during the mating season for a lot of the ungulate species, we see a lot of increased movement which increases the hazard of encountering them on the roads."

Boukall also says it's important to stay alert and be vigilant.

"We just really ask drivers to be more aware on the roads at all times, but really practice safe, definsive driving techniques. Pay attention to wildlife warning signs, drive at a speed thats appropriate, and, you know, especially when youre getting near those dawn or dusk hours, be really vigilant and be looking out for wildlife."

In the case of wildlife collision, Boukall says swerving to avoid it may only make things worse as it may increase damage and increase chances of the animal going through your windshield.
