There are four different candidates in the running for the riding of Airdrie East.

With representatives from the Alberta Party, the NDP, the Freedom Conservative Party and the United Conservative Party all running, it's bound to be an interesting election race.

One of those people is incumbent UCP candidate Angela Pitt. Pitt just completed her first term as a member of the legislative assembly for Airdrie.

Pitt kicked off her door-knocking campaign this week.

“I think it’s important to show that a candidate and their team can work hard by being out at the doors,” she said. “I really hope to spend most of my time doing that.”

Pitt said one of the issues she hears about consistently in Airdrie, and across Alberta, is concern over job loss.

“There are so many people who are out of work right now from bad government policies, and I truly believe that I am part of a party hat can turn this ship around,” Pitt explained.

Alex Luterbach is running in Airdrie East under the Alberta Party banner and has been knocking on doors in the community since January. She’s also heard that the economy and jobs are some of the biggest complaints from residents.

“We need a government that is going to get our oil and gas sector back to healthy, that is going to be working proactively to get our pipelines in the ground,” said Luterbach. “Once that’s back to healthy, we need a government that’s going to focus on diversifying our economy.”

Luterbach said many people have also told her they are undecided when it comes to who they will cast their ballot for and she says that there are more than just two options.

“I’ve seen how vibrant the community is when you are able to bring both that social service side of government and economic side of government together,” she said. “I think ultimately we need people in our government who are focused on bringing prosperity in both fields, in order to move forward.”

Election day will be held on April 16th, 2019.

We have reached out to FCP candidate Rick Northey and NDP candidate Roxie Baez Zamora for comment as well.
