With the City Council Chambers being filled to the max, with people standing in the lobby, one topic of great concern to Airdronians was brought up.

The meeting, held on Monday, September 19, brought up the topic of the proposed Airdrie Main Street Square (AMSQ) and many different emotions were expressed during the public question period.

One of the biggest concerns expressed was the lack of public involvement and the lack of public citizens that are part of the AMSQ Board.

There were also questions around the cost to the tax payers in order to have such a large project move forward.

According to City Manager Paul Schulz, the total cost of the project is estimated to be over $100 million, although that cost is subject to change.

Although council members aim to have a decision made by 2017, Mayor Peter Brown assured residents that a final decision will not be made until all Airdronians have had their questions answered.

There will be multiple public input sessions held over the next few months, which Mayor Brown strongly encourages residents to attend.
