Airdrie Dads, a local social media community on Facebook, is finding ways to give back to the community this month.

Marc Smith with Airdrie Dads said the group set a fundraising goal of $20,000 to benefit the Airdrie Lioness Club hamper program.

"We're very close to beating that goal of $20,000," said Smith. "It started off as a funny ha ha and it kinda spurred into, we're almost going to raise that amount of money for the Lioness Club."

It all started with member Wayne Lodge volunteering to get a tattoo of the Airdrie Dads logo if the $20,000 goal was met.

"It's not about the tattoo," said Lodge. "It's about helping the Lioness, and if that's what it takes, that's what it takes. I'm happy to do it."

Smith is proud of the level of engagement by members of Airdrie Dads. The fundraiser has involved an online auction but that is not the only way people have been finding money to donate.

"This is just guys reaching out. We had a guy doing a bottle drive on the weekend."

Smith said Airdrie Dads will reveal the amount raised and present a cheque to the Airdrie Lioness Club on Friday, December 2.
