A local family is in shock after an important medical device was stolen from the Ron Ebbesen Arena.

It happened sometime between 6 and 7 on Thursday night, as Rosalind Davies's son Josh was playing hockey, and left diabetes kit in the dressing room.

"It was sitting in his medical backpack, hanging in the dressing room, while he was on ice practicing with his team. We came home shortly after practice...he realized it wasn't in his bag."

Davies says that Airdrie Minor Hockey checked video surveillance and saw a man entering the dressing room during that time, prompting a report to be filed to RCMP.

The local mother says that the theft has caused some grief for the family.

"As most people would know, Type 1 diabetes does affect blood sugar as far as emotions...he (Josh) did go low most of the night just from the emotions he was feeling over losing a $6000 device."

The family is hoping the medical kit will be found unbroken and returned to them as soon as possible.
