Fire advisories have been issued for Airdrie, Cochrane and Rocky View County.

The County's advisory was issued at noon yesterday (June 5) with Airdrie's advisory coming out 10:00am today and Cochrane's issued shortly after at 1:00pm.

The fire advisory does place some restrictions on fire for the communities, and will remain in place until further notice.

"What it does, is it stops any permits that have been given for burning," said Deputy Fire Chief Garth Rabel. "We had none outstanding, so we don't have to cancel any of those burning permits. Everything else is still legal to do, we just need people to be extremely cautious while doing it."

Open fire pits can still be used, but extreme vigilance and caution is required to make sure fires are controlled.

Rabel said the reason for the advisory is the recent heat wave, which has prompted heat warnings from Environment Canada over the last few days.

"There's a lot of dry heat going on right now. It's very, very warm. There doesn't seem to be any break, anything that we're seeing coming through the weather people. There's no real precipitation in the next little while, so the conditions will only worsen. And then with these light breezes that we have, they can pick up at any time. If we do have a small fire, it can escalate very quickly."

A fire advisory is the lowest of three levels of fire notification and Rabel said that there is a possibility further restrictions could be put in place.

"We'll watch conditions and continue to monitor conditions, and if it warrants, then the fire chief will look at all the information he has and if need be, we could escalate it up as well."
