Emergency crews were busy this morning after responding to a house fire in the community of Williamstown.

Airdrie Fire received the call about the blaze before 5am on September 26th and found two houses on fire on Williamstown Blvd.

One of the neighbours of the affected families says they escaped unharmed and are currently living with relatives.

Fire crews say that the fire threatened a third home but thankfully the blaze didn't reach.

According to another witness in the community, families along Williamstown Grove and Williamstown Park just a few houses down were told to evacuate as fire crews battled the blazed.

The fire has now been extinguished and crews have closed off Williamstown Blvd as they investigate what caused the incident.
