Four local firefighters will be braving the cold over the next 72 hours in hopes to raise money for muscular dystrophy.

Over the next 72 hours, the firefighters will be camped out on top of the local Toad & Turtle braving the frigid cold and wind.

Rob Dawson, Acting Captain with the Airdrie Fire Department says the event is to bring awareness and raise funds for a great cause.

"The association that we belong to their charity of choice is muscular dystrophy so we have kind of adopted that since we have been apart of the IFF since 2010, we have done this event and other events for MD over the past nine years now and this is our sixth year doing the rooftop camp out."

The Firefighters will be staying in tents on top of the roof with sleeping bags and basic gear to keep warm and set up is going well.

"We are pretty much set up now, we just need to get the cots going, the Toad has two separate roofs, the one of the south we will be camping on while the one on the north we will be lowering down a boot and accepting donations."

Dawson also says that the 72 hours is nothing compared to what people with MD go through on a regular basis.

"The reason we come up and do this is to make ourselves uncomfortable and the reason we want to do that is that living with Muscular Dystrophy and its not an easy thing to do so that's why we come up here and camp and be freezing for three days in the winter time."

The public can stop by the camp out anytime and donate money into the boot which all goes towards the fundraiser.
