Summer can't be far off!  Fishing season has started in Alberta!

While a lot of lakes might not be open yet, April 1st marked the beginning of the 2017 sportfishing season in Alberta.  This year, the province is opening eight lakes to walleye fishing, many of which haven't been open since 1996 when Alberta introduced major restrictions to walleye harvesting after major population declines among the fish.

The province is implementing a tag system for walleye in the newly opened lakes, which include Pine Coulee Reservoir, Burnstick Lake, Gleniffer Reservoir, Gull Lake, Lac Bellevue, Bourque Lake, Hilda Lake and Lac La Biche.

For people who want to fish closer to home, they need look no further than Crossfield to find a stocked lake.  The Crossfield Trout Pond is stocked in the spring each year with Rainbow Trout.  The pond is located on Laut Avenue in the community and is 1.3 hectares in area and handicap accessible.
