Now that the deadline for nomination applications has passed for the United Conservative Party in the new riding of Airdrie-Cochrane, we know who will be seeking the nomination at the contests that have been scheduled over two days in October.

Papers had to be filed by 5:00 pm on Friday, along with all the things that were to accompany them, such as the signatures of 50 UCP party members who reside within the boundaries of Airdrie-Cochrane.

According to the Elections Alberta website, five people will be in the hotly contested nomination race.  They are Ian Chitwood, Peter Guthrie, Morgan Nagel, Mauri Stiff, and Laura Talsma.

This week, two Nomination Forums will be held in the riding.  The first goes Tuesday, October 2nd from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Lions Hall in Cochrane.  The second forum will be held Thursday, October 4th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Town and Country Centre, 275 Jensen Drive NE, in Airdrie.

The two nomination contests are slated for Thursday, October 18th from noon to 8:00 pm at the Golden Rod Community Hall, located west of Airdrie at the corner of Highways 567 and 772, and Saturday, October 20th between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm at the Cochrane RancheHouse.

By legislation, the next provincial election in Alberta has to happen between March 1st and May 31st, 2019.
