With flu-season right around the corner, Alberta Health Services (AHS) wants to urge the importance of getting vaccinated.

Last year over 1 million Albertans were vaccinated for influenza, despite the recent "anti-vaccine" movement that has come to light.

"It's very important to be immunized against influenza because that is the number one way to protect yourself and others against influenza and it's severe complications such as hospitalization." said Dr. Judy MacDonald, Medical Officer of Health, Alberta Health Services.

Last year 62 people in the province were killed from influenza, while 1,698 were hospitalized.

It is important to be vaccinated even if you're healthy, because you could pass on influenza to someone who it could cause more damage too.

"If you manage it okay, you may infect somebody else, someone in your house, maybe a loved one who's in a long-term health center, they might not have as good a time." said Macdonald.

Here in Airdrie, AHS will start rolling out the flu shots from October 25th - December 3rd at the Airdrie Town and Country Hall. You may also have the opportunity to get the vaccine at a local pharmacy.
