A woman who represented the area in several capacities for 20 years has died after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Charlotte Beatrice Louise Feltham passed away May 25th.

Feltham served Rocky View County for 15 years, first as a councillor and then as the first woman to hold the position of Reeve in a county in Alberta.  She then made the successful leap to federal politics, being elected the Member of Parliament in the Wildrose constituency for the Progressive Conservatives in 1988.

The riding was created that year and included Airdrie, Cochrane, Didsbury, Mountain View County, and parts of Rocky View County.  Feltham only served one term representing the riding but was a vocal supporter of agriculture during her time in parliament.

Feltham also had a strong interest in business, including land development.  She also spent time farming.

Feltham is survived by her husband of 64 years Douglas, one daughter, two sons, and five grandchildren.
