Let's face it, even though your pine was pretty this year, your fir may have been fantastic and you may have even gone so far as to say your spruce was spectacular, now that Christmas is over, it's time to give it a decent send-off.

It's time to let it go, and with the help of the 1st Airdrie Scouts, go it will!

Over the next two weekends, December 28th and 29th and January 4th and 5th, the Scout group will be doing their annual curbside Christmas tree recycling for the Airdrie community.

"The city collects all the Christmas trees over at the Eastside Recycling Depot but it's just sometimes difficult for everyone to get them out," explains Scoutr Rob Noble with the 1st Airdrie Scouts.  "Now that they've been in their house for a month and they're dropping needles everywhere.  The Scouts come by and you can just set it out front, go on our website and book a time and we'll know what your address is and we'll be able to come to your house and take your Christmas tree to the Eastside Recycling Depot."

Noble explains the troop has been doing the recycling program for three years now. The first year they picked up around 100 trees and that grew to an even bigger number last year.

While the Scouts would be happy to accept donations for recycling the trees, which will go to let the Scouts attend camps and go on adventures, a donation isn't necessary to have your tree recycled.  The Scouts consider this a way to fulfill their mandate of community service.

Should you choose to make a donation, it can be any amount.  For those who make a donation of $20 or more, you'll know you have helped the Scouts to do their part to beautify the community.

"We've been working for the last couple of years with Water Valley Forest Nursery and getting trees in the springtime," says Noble.  "For every person that donates over $20 we make sure we get a tree and plant them in the parks here in the city."

Noble says to book a pickup go to the 1st Airdrie Scouts Facebook page and follow the links to the signup or go directly to 1stAirdrieScouts.com. You can make a donation online or simply give the Scouts a cheque when they pick up your tree.
