It was a cold night Thursday (December 6) for some brave students from Ecole Francophone d'Airdrie as they slept in cardboard boxes to bring awareness to the issue of life on the streets and collected food for the Airdrie Food Bank during their 24 Hours Against Hunger event.

But, they received encouragement and moral support in their efforts from some high profile, French-speaking members of the Airdrie RCMP while they shivered.

As a French school, Ecole Francophone d'Airdrie works with local services where French is accessible.  This year was the first time they joined forces with the Airdrie RCMP where several Francophone members work.  Those members came by the cardboard box camp the students set up at the school during the evening and wee hours of the morning to cheer the students on.

The "24 Hours Against Hunger" or "24 Heure Contre la Faim" en francais, is a yearly project at the school that's been going for eight years.  The students try to bring awareness to the trials and tribulations faced by people on the streets as they collect food for the local Food Bank.

The partnership this year also helped TEAM BLUE in the "Sirens Lip Sync Challenge" where the RCMP and Airdrie Municipal Enforcement (TEAM BLUE) is facing off against the Airdrie Fire Department and Alberta Health Services (TEAM RED).

The students donated all of the food they collected to the challenge.

The Airdrie RCMP wanted to give a message to the students.  Great work kids!
