Man's best friends were looking for local homes when Fur-Ever Homes Rescue held an adoption event in the Pet Valu in Cooper's Town yesterday (October 21st)

Locals had a chance to come in and meet rescue dogs coming from places like Los Angeles and Mexico. The dogs were brought to Canada to be introduced to a family who would give them the time and love they deserve.

Fur-Ever Homes coordinator Melisa Eye said that bringing dogs from all over the world is important to their cause.

"We believe that rescue has no borders and we're rescuing small dogs from those locations to try and find them forever homes. We [are] looking for people that are willing to give a dog a loving home, people that are willing to give the dog time to transition to the home. A lot of the dogs sometimes come with a little bit of trauma or have been abused or neglected so it may take a little while. We're just looking for families who are looking to add another [member] to their family."

Pet Valu holds a Fur-Ever adoption event once every month, always on a Sunday and always at the Cooper's Town location.

With so many different dog breeders offering pure-bred, Eye said it's sometimes forgotten that there are so many dogs, local and nationwide, that need love and assistance. Without the people at Fur-Ever Homes, those dogs might not have been able to have the chance to meet loving families.

Eye encourages people to "adopt and not shop" when thinking of adding a furry friend to the family next time.

"I believe that there's a lot of dogs in shelters all over the world and those dogs are being overlooked and for that reason, those dogs are being euthanized and those dogs are losing their lives."

Fur-Ever Homes is always looking for loving families with the time and patience to adopt an adorable rescue dog. You can visit their site to find an event near you and to meet the rescue dogs up for an adoption.
