It seems that everything from local business to the stock markets are being effected by the downturn in the economy.

Thankfully, it appears that Halloween isn't taking a hit.

According to Susan Lastiwka from Cody Party in Airdrie she has seen some effects of the economy, but is hoping for a booming end to October.

"I'm nervous as a business owner every single year I feel the same way, 'Oh my gosh, how are we going to do this?' And every year we've been very fortunate."

That's because, unlike some holidays, Halloween is a bitter race to the end.

"It's always quieter in the beginning of October. There really is this rush of, 'Oh my gosh, I forgot it's Halloween next week.' We're anticipating, quite frankly, this weekend to be an extremely busy weekend."

It's estimated that Canadians will spend up to $140 a person on Halloween costumes, decorations, and candy.
