The Airdrie Fire Department (AFD), the Rapid Response HazMat team and the City of Airdrie Water Services Department all got in on the action last night (October 16) when they responded to a wastewater overflow in the city.

At 7:00 pm, the Fire Department responded to a report of a wastewater overflow at 106 Sierra Springs Drive SE.  When they arrived at the scene they found what appeared to be wastewater in the parking lot.  After some further investigation, it was discovered that the wastewater wasn't being contained by the sanitary system.

With assistance from the City of Airdrie Water Services, the full extent of the overflow was determined.  The surrounding area was then closed to the public to allow the Rapid Response HazMat team to facilitate cleanup of the area.  AFD provided a water supply to flush out the area's system.

None of the water managed to make its way to Nose Creek and there were no injuries.

A total of 14 firefighters, using five pieces of apparatus, the Rapid Response HazMat team, and City of Airdrie Water Services all attended the incident.
