It's been a busy, busy winter so far for Airdrie's road crews especially with last month's heavy snowfall.

Mike Avramenko, Team Lead for the Roads Department says that regardless of when the snow falls, they're always ready.

"In terms of efforts, I think every snow event, everything is prioritized so it's basically start from priority ones and work our way through."

However, when it comes to the snow removal budget for the year, the heavy snowfalls have put up a bit of a strain.

"I guess we can say this is a good old fashion Alberta winter, we are hovering near the $1.3 million mark for budget. Which is basically for the whole winter so we still have six weeks to go."

Avramenko says though that with the change in temperatures and warmer weather approaching, he doesn't foresee much more work for the snow removal crews coming up.

Nonetheless, the recent heavy snowfalls have made the job of clearing roads a bit more difficult.

"We had a lot of sustained cold. The Chinooks were limited in days which obviously affects snowpacks in the residential. It'll probably be a little bit challenging in the next couple weeks when everything softens up."
