Airdronians are encouraged to get out and lend a hand this Christmas season.

Now more than ever, a large number of Albertans will be in need of some holiday help, relying heavily on the efforts of volunteers.

"A lot of families are struggling economically right now, and cant afford to donate much money, but giving your time is just as valuable and important to make this holiday season special for someone who has even less," says Dave Maffitt with Volunteer Airdrie.

Some of the organizations in need are the Lioness Christmas Hamper program, Airdrie Festival of Lights, Airdrie Parade's New Years Fireworks and Stephens Backpacks.

"Volunteering doesn't have to mean signing up voluntarily with a large non-profit group and committing for a long time, a lot of the things you can consider are quick and easy and don't require a lot of time." said Maffitt.
